Case Study: 10 new homes for rough sleepers in Buckinghamshire
1 February, 2021 | Direct Acquisitions
Background: In July 2020 the NSAP funding programme was announced by MHCLG. The focus was on delivery of move-on accommodation for rough sleepers, rehoused in unused hotels during the COVID lockdown. The deadline to deploy the funding once allocated, was just 5 months.
Solution: Working with Buckinghamshire Council and Hightown Housing Association, we acquired and renovated 10 flats to meet local housing need under the programme. The NSAP allocations were announced at the end of October, two weeks later the Council received Cabinet approval for the scheme. We spent a couple of months ensuring the property was ready for occupation and especially that all fire compliance met with the latest regulations. We also ensured two of the flats were DDA compliant for residents with mobility challenges. The scheme was funded using NSAP grant and s106 contributions, and the first residents moved into their new homes in February 2021, well ahead of the 31st March deadline.
